3G Wireless goes "Cellular" with Nucomm's CamPac 2 HD Wireless Camera System

Using Nucomm's HD/SD CamPac 2 camera back transmitter and Newscaster DR diversity receiver, sports coverage provider 3 G Wireless demonstrated for the first time, a ground based cellular diversity receive system with automatic switching at the PGA Golf Championship in Chicago, Il.

Four Newscaster DR diversity receivers were strategically set up around the back nine on existing camera platforms. The Sony HD Camera was equipped with Nucomm's CamPac 2 transmitter set for a 200 mw RF output. The camera man was able to provide complete and uninterrupted HD coverage (no breakup) of all nine holes without the need for a second man typically required as a pointer for such events. Additionally, no cranes were needed around the golf course, again typically required for such events.

When asked to comment on the test, Greg Robinson, President of 3G Wireless said, "I am extremely encouraged by the results". This is a very tough test for a HD wireless camera. The Nucomm CamPac 2 transmitter and the Newcaster DR diversity receiver are packed with engineering features not found in comparable models. The system has the agility and selectivity to survive the heavily congested spectrum used by Sports and Newscasters alike, and still deliver the best quality HD video available for a mobile camera.

Nucomm and WRAL Combine Technology and Innovation for "Parade of Sail"

Stunning 36Mbs HD footage was provided from the CamPac 2 and ChannelMaster TX1 for WRAL's coverage of the Parade of Sail in Beaufort, NC. Three CamPac 2's provided POV coverage from the schooner AJ Meerwahld, Fort Macon and a chase boat for the thirteen sailing ships. The HD downlink from WRAL's Sky5 was provided from the ChannelMaster TX1 and an external HD encoder. The three HD/SD CamPac2's transmitted to four sector antennas, the received signals were combined by Nucomm's Newscaster DR receiver using maximum ratio combining.

In the words of WRAL's Chief Engineer, Pete Sockett, "the coverage of the event was flawless and the HD video was perfect".
